Major Components of Planning (you shouldn't miss these)
Defining Scope- Clearly stating what will and will not be done.
Annual Income- The annual income of the church is a good measure to establish a building Project Budget. (Common multipliers: One time annual income for a remodeling project. 2x annual income for classroom building or activities building. 3x annual income for a worship center or relocation project) .
Project Budget- The total (target) budget for a building project including "hard cost" (buildings & parking) and "soft costs" (architect fees, permit fees, preparation costs, etc.).
Capacities- Target capacities for worship, classrooms, dining, parking.
What Now, What Then- Determine the initial function of the proposed building and also consider what the proposed building may be used for in the long range future.
Master Site Plan- A drawing that shows the entire church property, existing buildings/parking, next proposed building/parking and future buildings/parking.
Building Sequence- Consider the order in which each building will be constructed on the church campus and how to maintain the regular schedule of activities/ministries during each building program.
